    Great Lakes Association of Astronomy Clubs

    From G.L.A.A.C. Board Member, Dr. Brian Ottum:
    =====================================

    Next Sunday night, January 31 we’ll be using the remote control telescope located in the desert in order to see LIVE images of all the good stuff in the constellation of Orion:

    Betelgeuse star (soon to go supernova!)
    Orion Nebula (birthplace of stars)
    Running Man Nebula (yes, it looks like that)
    Horsehead Nebula (yes, it looks like that)
    Rorschach Nebula (you’ll see why I gave it that name)

    Along the way, you’ll see the backstory on the telescope and hear a bit of Greek mythology. Be sure to use YouTube’s chat to type in questions, comments and heckling.

    Feel free to forward to anyone who likes learning about space, telescopes and photography.

    It’s going to be fun.

    This is Adrian Bradley, current President of G.L.A.A.C.

    As we enter this new year, here's hoping that our world moves forward towards mitigating the effects of SARS-CoV-2, thus making it safe for non-restricted social gatherings. In other words, we all miss you, the general public, from being with us, looking in our telescopes, and letting any of our member clubs help with your understanding and discovery of the night sky.

    In 2021 the virtual astronomy events will continue. We have not decided on whether to do another virtual Astronomy On The Beach, or if we will plan for a 'hybrid' event where we come up with a safe way to share telescopes and/or astrophotography rigs while having some of the content online. A lot depends on how quickly the vaccinations work and are distributed.

    Right now we are all on a "wait and see" basis, while we do the best we can. Because we now know that the virus does not spread as easily outdoors, we will take that into consideration for our future planning.

    Thank you all for supporting G.L.A.A.C. in 2020, and we look forward to your continued support in 2021.
