Jim Shedlowsky-Large Synoptic Survey Telescope

November 2 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Jim’s presentation is about the LSST, one of the most exciting of the next generation of Giant Telescopes. It will be the worlds most sophisticated “Survey Telescope”. You may rightly ask,….”what is a survey telescope ?”,…….and “why should I be interested ?” Jim will attempt to answer these questions, and to describe an instrument, facility, and program which may revolutionize our understanding of our Solar System, our Galaxy, and indeed, our entire Universe,…..and how you will be invited to participate. The LSST will map the entire southern hemisphere in a manner much more detailed than ever before, and in a new dimension,….Time,…. for the first time ever.
This presentation will explain what it is, how it will operate, and why it is the number one priority for the National Science Foundation for ground based astronomy for this decade.

Telescope observing afterward, weather permitting.
This event is free and open to the public.
